Stonehenge
After enjoying the many historical sites in London make sure you don't miss one. While Stonehenge built around 3000 B.C to 1500 B.C. and located on salisbury plain, is not actually in London it is close enough to put in the not one to miss category. Specialist tours can be booked including travel by coach or you could just catch the train from London's Waterloo Station to Salisbury station.
Stonehenge is one of the most awe inspiring sites of ancient historical value in England. You can't help gazing at Stonehenge and wondering how they built it, how did they haul the stones all the way from Wales. Stonehenge is particularly a haven for individuals who study ancient religions, have an interest in pagan rituals and believe in the power of ancient lay lines. Stonehenge like the Nile valley, Roman forum and the sites of ancient Greece appear on many people's top ten lists to see before they depart this earth. Visitors include Pagan's, astrologists, history students and the curious. If the remains of past civilizations interest you or you just need to recharge your physic batteries, Stonehenge is just the right place for you.
The best time to visit Stonehenge is from mid March till May and from mid-September till October. The time of admission is from 9.30 am till 6pm in the evening. Individuals who love art and sculpture would not mind spending a slightly higher admission fee to visit Stonehenge. The admission fee is 5.60 pounds for adults and 3.50 pounds for children. Over enthusiastic tourists who hope to get their pictures taken while standing with the stone monuments will have to make do with a particular distance due to a barrier between them and the stone monuments. This is because the entire area is protected by a railing of rope and tourists are accompanied with a guide at all times. Thankfully, the tour guide fee is included in the admission fee. An audio guide is also included, whose entire taped guided conversation lasts for about 30-60 minutes, i.e. only if one bothers to listen to it carefully. Most of the tourists are simply awestruck by the stone monuments.
